Classic alcohol- and fragrance-containing toners are strongly discouraged for sensitive skin. However, alcohol-free, pH-balanced toning essences containing panthenol, niacinamide, or aloe vera can provide a light hydration layer without disrupting the barrier. It is not mandatory; many with sensitive skin achieve excellent results with a cleanse + ceramide cream + SPF routine alone.

How is sensitive skin managed in infants and children?

Infant and child skin has a thinner stratum corneum than adults, with higher pH. Sensitive skin tendencies are therefore more common in this age group. Fragrance-free products with no or minimal preservatives should be preferred. The safest cream for ages 0–2: plain petrolatum or zinc-oxide occlusive creams.
